TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Nigel "Big Jelly" Dixon, Florida
State's 335-pound junior center, scored a career-high 28 points
Friday to lead the Seminoles to an 89-59 victory over Elon (N.C.)
College.
Dixon scored Florida State's first seven points in the game and
finished with 17 in the second half. He shot 13-of-18 from the
field and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Florida State (2-1) led 43-30 at halftime and opened its biggest
lead at 86-54 with 1:54 left in the game.
Elon (2-2) was led by Steven Harvin and Quinton McCleod, who
each scored 10 points. The Phoenix, who are hoping to improve on a
9-20 record a year ago, shot 42.6 percent from the field and were
outmatched in rebounding where the taller, heavier Seminoles
enjoyed a 50-30 advantage.
Antwuan Dixon, who is not related to Nigel Dixon, added 14
points for Florida State while freshman Anthony Richardson chipped
in with 13 and Monte Cummings had 10.
Florida State shot 50 percent from the field and forced 18
turnovers.
Dixon's previous career-high was 23 points last year against
Rhode Island. |
